Now, who am I?

“I’m not a prophet or a stone age man, just a mortal with the potential of a Superman.”

“I’m not a prophet or a stone age man, just a mortal with the potential of a Superman.”

★ David Bowie

I’m just like you. I’m just a person floating through the cosmos and trying to make sense of it all. This particular story started, not unlike so many others, through a devastating event that changed my reality. After a tragedy caused my world to implode, I was left with nothing but space… and time… and stillness… There are moments in everyone’s life when a person is faced with absolute uncertainty. This was mine. My source of gravity was gone, and I was lost.

What makes life worth living?

There are seasons that make you question everything, and there are moments that break you into pieces. My life felt hollow. When you’re lost in nothingness, you have to think of ways to fill the void. You’ve forgotten what gives life meaning, and you’re searching for purpose again. People will tell you to stop being sad, but they can’t tell you how. Here’s what I know: the opposite of death is life. You have to starting planting new seeds in the soil of your own world. In my personal experience, the only way to combat depression is to start something new, not to bypass sadness or try to escape it. I had to rediscover who I am in the universe and remember how it feels to be happy again. I was lost in the darkness, so my only source of light had to come from within.

What can self-expression do for you?

I started every project that I never got around to doing before, and I unearthed unfinished art pieces that had been forgotten. I started studying every topic that I was interested in but never had the chance to explore. With an art degree and a lifelong fascination with creative minds, I went down a rabbit hole of research. I love art in all its forms and the artists that are brave enough pursue their passions. The mind of an artist is like a waterfall of ideas once it gets activated, and that fueled me.

In my research, I realized something. There isn’t an artist on the planet that has ever escaped sorrow or tragedy, but somehow, they rose above it. They used their mediums to express their emotions and to transmute them. They turned pain into poetry and silence into music. There was my answer. Creation became my therapy. That healed me more than grief counseling ever did. (That’s just me. Do what helps you.) Learning about artists and their stories helped me reconnect with empathy, with humanity, with myself. I began to feel stable, and the world started to have color again.

“Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind, possessing and caressing me. Nothing’s gonna change my world.” ★ John Lennon

What did art do for me?

To me, there’s nothing more therapeutic or empowering than the act of creation. I didn’t make anything for anybody else but me. I wasn’t trying to be the next big artist, but if that’s your goal, you should pursue it. The funny thing was that, when I was fully in the creative zone, my art began speaking back to me, like messages from the stars. Believe it or not, I could see myself and the one that I lost connecting through my work. Art became a bridge through space and time. It may sound delusional, but what artist isn’t?

“Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns. It calls me on and on across the universe.” ★ John Lennon

What medium speaks to you?

For me, it’s music. Musicians are storytellers of the soul. They take us through journeys and guide us through emotional landscapes. They paint entire universes with lyrics and sound. Music can stir up new emotions or unlock nostalgia. A familiar song can take you back in time or connect you to a stranger. I believe it’s the most universal artform that connects us all. A well-written song can be a portal, a memory, a lifeline, or a shooting star traveling across the universe.

★★★ Welcome to Moonlight Road ★★★

And now, here we are. I found my peace through art. I want this space to help you find yours. Everyone is going through something or healing from something. Art doesn’t care. It’s always there for us. I want this space to remind you of that. I want Moonlight Road to be a sanctuary for the creative soul.

Let’s celebrate the act of creation. We should be unlocking our creativity and unleashing it on the world. We should be connecting with other artists and supporting them for living their lives with their hearts on their sleeves. We should be practicing the art of creation in any form that speaks to us, even if it’s just reading and taking notes on interesting points. This space is yours to be what you need it to be for you at this moment.

I want to encourage you to do anything that lights you up while your favorite music is playing in the background. Share your work. Share your ideas. Or don’t and just come as you are to be inspired.

“I don’t know where I’m going from here, but I promise it won’t bore you.”
